What happens to your file

A video file is a container: one track holds the picture, other tracks hold sound, subtitles or timecode. To mute a video, MuteVideo removes the audio tracks and copies the picture track exactly as it was — nothing is decoded or compressed again.

For MP4 and MOV, only the file’s index is rewritten in your browser. The picture data is referenced in place, so even large files finish in seconds without filling your device’s memory.

For WebM, MKV and AVI, an FFmpeg engine compiled to WebAssembly runs in your browser tab and performs the same stream copy.

Your video is read from your device and saved back to it. It isn’t sent to a server.

Good to know

A clean base for a TikTok sound

TikTok posts are often built around a sound chosen in the app. If the clip has its own audio, the two can clash. Removing it first gives you a silent video where only the sound you add will play.

Original audio and music rights

Muting removes any music that happened to be playing while you filmed, but it is not a guarantee against content claims or muted posts. Pick sounds from TikTok’s library or audio you are allowed to use.

Trim before you post

Need a shorter clip? The trim and mute tool cuts the start and end and removes the sound in one pass. Fast trimming may shift the start slightly to a keyframe; exact trimming re-encodes for a precise cut.

Several clips for one post

Building a post from multiple clips? Mute up to 20 at once and download them as a ZIP. Each file keeps its name with a _muted suffix, so the silent versions stand out next to the originals.

Questions and answers

Does a muted video avoid copyright issues on TikTok?

Not necessarily. Muting removes the original audio, but no tool can guarantee how a platform will review a post.

Does muting change the video quality?

No. The picture is copied without re-encoding, so it matches what you recorded.

Can I mute a TikTok video from a link?

No. MuteVideo works with video files on your device; it does not download videos from TikTok or other sites.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. It runs in mobile browsers, and MP4 and MOV files can be up to 4 GB.
