Good to know
Fast trim or exact trim
Fast trim copies the video without re-encoding, so it finishes quickly, but it cuts at keyframes and the start may shift slightly. Exact trim re-encodes the video so it starts and ends where you set it; it takes longer and the picture is encoded again.
One range, from start to end
The tool keeps one continuous section between the start and end you choose and removes the audio from it. It does not cut out a section in the middle or join several pieces together.
Shorter clips, smaller files
Cutting a clip down also makes the file smaller, because there is less video in it. That helps when a chat app or email has a size limit; MuteVideo does not compress, so trimming is the main way to save space here.
Formats and limits
Trim and mute works with MP4, MOV and WebM files. You can add up to 10 files with a combined size of 500 MB on desktop or 150 MB on mobile. It uses an FFmpeg engine in your browser, downloaded once on first use.
Questions and answers
Why did my clip start a little earlier than I set?
Fast trim cuts at the nearest keyframe, so the start can shift slightly. Use exact trim for a precise start.
Does exact trim affect quality?
It re-encodes the video, so the picture is encoded again. Fast trim keeps the original video stream.
Which formats can I trim?
MP4, MOV and WebM, up to 10 files and 500 MB in total on desktop, or 150 MB on mobile.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Trimming and muting happen in your browser, on your device.
